Taylor Swift Unintentionally Entangled in Legal Dispute Between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni
Taylor Swift’s name has surfaced in the ongoing legal battle involving actress Blake Lively and actor-director Justin Baldoni, despite her limited involvement in the matter.
The dispute began when It Ends With Us star Blake Lively filed a formal complaint accusing co-star and director Justin Baldoni of sexual harassment. In response, Baldoni launched a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively and others, which introduced several personal messages and communications into the court record.
Notably, Baldoni’s legal filings referenced alleged text messages between Blake Lively and her close friends, including Taylor Swift and actor Ryan Reynolds. In the texts, Lively reportedly referred to Swift and Reynolds as her “dragons,” a term some observers interpreted as signaling a reliance on their public influence.
As part of the case proceedings, Baldoni subpoenaed Swift on May 9, 2025. However, a spokesperson for Swift firmly denied her involvement, clarifying that her sole connection to the film was the licensing of her song My Tears Ricochet. She held no creative or operational role in the film’s production.
Following legal objections from Lively’s team and judicial concerns regarding the necessity of Swift’s involvement, the subpoena was formally withdrawn on May 22, 2025.
This case has generated considerable media attention, with online commentary occasionally targeting Swift and Lively with unfair accusations. Critics have labeled the two as “mean girls,” despite a lack of evidence suggesting any inappropriate conduct by Swift.
The lawsuit remains ongoing, with further developments expected in the coming months.
