BREAKING NEWS:Trump Urges Democratic Leaders to Cooperate on Immigration, Citing Public Safety Concerns. Read more.

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday called on Democratic governors and mayors across the United States to cooperate more closely with federal immigration authorities, warning that resistance to enforcement efforts has created what he described as “dangerous circumstances” for American communities.

In a public statement, Trump criticized so-called “sanctuary” policies adopted by some states and cities, arguing that limits on cooperation with federal immigration agencies have weakened law enforcement and put lives at risk.

He claimed that the refusal of certain local leaders to work with federal authorities has contributed to violent crimes, including the deaths of two American citizens.

“Cities and states that obstruct federal immigration enforcement are endangering the public,” Trump said, asserting that a lack of coordination allows individuals with criminal records to remain in communities when they otherwise might have been detained or removed.

Immigration has long been a central issue in Trump’s political messaging.

During his presidency, he pursued stricter border controls, expanded deportation efforts, and frequently clashed with Democratic-led jurisdictions over their immigration policies.

His latest remarks continue that theme, framing immigration enforcement as a matter of public safety rather than solely a question of border management.

Democratic leaders who support sanctuary policies have pushed back against such claims, arguing that cooperation limits are designed to build trust between immigrant communities and local law enforcement.

They maintain that when immigrants fear deportation, they are less likely to report crimes or cooperate with police investigations, ultimately making communities less safe.

Several studies and local officials have disputed a direct link between sanctuary policies and increased crime.

Still, Trump insisted that federal, state, and local governments must act in unison to address illegal immigration.

He urged Democratic officials to abandon what he called “political posturing” and prioritize cooperation with agencies such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The comments come amid renewed national debate over immigration enforcement, border security, and the role of local governments.

With immigration remaining a polarizing issue ahead of upcoming elections, Trump’s remarks are likely to resonate with supporters who favor tougher enforcement while drawing criticism from opponents who view his approach as overly punitive.

As the debate continues, the divide between federal authority and local discretion on immigration policy remains unresolved, underscoring the broader political and legal tensions shaping the national conversation on immigration and public safety.
