King Charles has a plan for the new year—and we don’t just mean a plan for how to celebrate the beginning of 2025. The King, who saw a reduced schedule of public events in 2024 due to his cancer diagnosis and later treatment, has been going back to a fuller schedule in the last few months.

That included hosting a visit by the Amir of Qatar earlier this month and the annual Christmas lunch for the extended royal family on December 19. On December 20, the King and Queen Camilla were also seen in Walthamstow, east London, with an agenda of highlighting social cohesion and community work in the area. Both are set to head to Sandringham House, the King’s private estate in the Norfolk countryside.

On Christmas day the King, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children are expected to step out for church at St. Mary Magdalene.

But what are King Charles’ plans for the new year? How will he be handling his cancer diagnosis going forward? Here’s what we know.

What are King Charles’ new year plans?

Palace sources confirmed to Sky News that the King’s cancer treatment is going well. “His treatment has been moving in a positive direction and as a managed condition the treatment cycle will continue into next year,” palace sources said. And with that in mind, the King’s agenda of engagements seems to be fuller than it has been in a while, and foreign travel is even being considered for 2025.

“We’re now working on a pretty normal-looking, full overseas tour program for next year,” a senior palace official said in October. “Which is a high for us to end on, to know that we can be thinking in those terms, subject to signoff by doctors.”

“It’s very common for treatment to be ongoing for very long periods, as is the treatment that the Princess of Wales went through, which is an intense period of treatment over a year, and then it comes to a point where it’s on an end, and she’s on that recovery from some of the impacts of her treatment,” Lee said, adding, “So we’ve got immunotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, hormone therapy. There are all sorts of different treatment modalities. And so it’s not surprising at all.”
