For the second straight season, and third time in the already-legendary career of Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs will open the season with a Super Bowl championship celebration. K.C. was last seen on the field in a meaningful game toppling the San Fransisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime in Las Vegas to go back-to-back as Super Bowl champs for the first time since the Patriots in 2003 and 2004.
The Ravens, meanwhile were last seen getting shut down by these very same Chiefs in the AFC championship in January, in a 17-10 loss at home. Lamar Jackson was the NFL MVP for a second time last year and, along with Mahomes, is among the favorites to win more hardware this season. Baltimore is looking to stay atop the AFC North this season but can Baltimore — or anyone in the AFC — knock the Chiefs off the top of the mountain? Opening night is likely to be an opening statement for one of the teams, and could prove meaningful in a potential tie-breaker situation down the line for home field advantage in the AFC playoffs.

A power run off right guard gets Baltimore on the board with the first points on the season. Henry’s 6-yard touchdown run capped off an 11-play, 70 yard drive that saw Baltimore convert on three 3rd downs and average more and 5.0 yards per rush on the opening series.
