JUST IN:Machado Thanks Trump After Maduro’s Capture: A Turning Point in Venezuela’s Turmoil.

In the wake of a dramatic U.S. operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and opposition figure María Corina Machado has publicly expressed deep gratitude toward former U.S. President Donald Trump, crediting him with playing a pivotal role in the unfolding political transition in Venezuela.

Background: Maduro’s Capture and the U.S. Operation

On January 3, 2026, U.S. military forces conducted a high-profile operation in Venezuela that led to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro on charges linked to drug trafficking and weapons violations and transported him to face trial in New York.

The event marked a historic escalation in U.S. intervention in Latin America and set off a wave of political and diplomatic reactions across the region.

Machado’s Public Thanks to Trump

Machado, who was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for her sustained advocacy for democracy and human rights in Venezuela, spoke Monday in an exclusive interview on Fox News.

In her remarks, she thanked Trump for what she called his “courageous vision” and “historical actions” that contributed to Maduro’s downfall.

She said that as soon as she learned she had won the Nobel Prize in October, she dedicated it to President Trump, stating she believed he deserved the honor because of the decisive role his administration played in recent events.

Machado described the capture of Maduro as a “milestone — the day justice defeated tyranny,” and a huge step for humanity, freedom, and human dignity.

“Freedom Is Near,” Machado Says

In a social-media message posted during the weekend events, Machado declared that “the freedom of Venezuela is near,” highlighting the importance of international support in moments of transition.

She specifically thanked Trump for his firmness and determination following the capture, suggesting that the actions taken have strengthened the prospects for democratic governance.

Machado’s Relationship With the U.S.

The Nobel laureate has not had direct communication with Trump since October 10, 2025 — the day her Peace Prize was announced — but maintains that the Venezuelan people are grateful for his role.

She also expressed a desire to personally offer Trump her Nobel Peace Prize as a symbol of appreciation, though that gesture has yet to occur.

Political Uncertainty Back Home

Despite Machado’s praise, Trump has publicly hinted that he does not plan to support her leadership of Venezuela’s transitional government, arguing she lacks sufficient domestic support.

Instead, Delcy Rodríguez, Maduro’s former vice president, was installed as acting president, a move that has generated controversy and mixed reactions from international observers.

What This Means for Venezuela’s Future

Machado’s comments underscore a complex political moment: while many Venezuelans rejoice at Maduro’s removal after years of economic collapse and political repression, there is uncertainty about who will steer the country forward.

Machado’s alliance with Trump and her call for democratic reforms stand in contrast to other forces vying for influence, making Venezuela’s next chapter a pivotal one in both regional and global politics.
