Patrick Mahomes reveals stinky game-day ritual during appearance on the Manningcast

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes managed to show up last night during Monday Night Football despite the game being between the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills.

Mahomes joined iconic former NFL quarterbacks Peyton and Eli Manning for a portion

of the brothers’ alternative MNF viewing experience, the Manningcast.

The 28-year-old was asked about any superstitions he had on game days. As it turns out, Mahomes has one very unusual game-day ritual.

Since his rookie season, the quarterback says he’s worn the exact same pair of red underwear. The revelation was confirmation of a rumor thrown out by Mahomes’ former backup Chad Henne.

The underwear was apparently a gift from the QB’s wife, and after a spectacular first year in 2018, Mahomes decided not to mess with success. The quarterback did try to put any hygiene concerns at ease.

“I only wear them for game day though, so they’re not too worn down, they’re not like these nasty (underwear), I clean them,” Mahomes said.

However, the two-time Super Bowl champ did suggest he only washes the underpants when the team loses, which isn’t a lot.

“I wash them every once in a while at least. I mean, if we’re on a hot streak, I can’t wash them, you know? I’ve just got to keep it rolling.” Mahomes said.

Aside from the undergarment talk, the quarterback also talked with the Mannings about the Chiefs’ 2023 season so far. The quarterback credited his defense for the Chiefs’ success this year.

“I think if the offense was playing as good as the defense was playing, no one would even have anything to say. I mean, it’s great whenever you’re not playing the best offense you’ve played, and you’re still 7-2 because of the defense,” Mahomes said. “I think we’ll be okay on offense with Andy Reid being the coach over there.”

The reigning NFL MVP went on to predict plays for the Broncos as they battled to a 24-21 win over the Bills.

His play calling was so spot on, successfully guessing three plays in a row leading to a touchdown, that Mahomes even joked about joining the Manningcast next week during the Chiefs’ upcoming Monday night game.
