Patrick Mahomes Says He Has Only Used a Silent Count in Two NFL Stadiums
“The only time I’ve been [on a] silent [count] is in Baltimore and in Seattle, where I’ve had to, under center, kinda have to go [with] signals to the offensive linemen,” the two-time Super Bowl MVP said on the Manningcast on Monday night

The Week 10 edition of the Manningcast had someone who will likely join Peyton (and Eli, if he is inducted) in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes and the Chiefs (7-2) were on bye this past weekend, and after the Baltimore Ravens lost 33-31 to the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City is currently in sole possession of first place in the AFC.

Come the postseason, that is crucial, because as Mahomes referenced during Monday night’s matchup between the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills, Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium — where Mahomes and the Chiefs have a 1-1 record at during the 28-year-old’s career — can be an intimidating place to play.

“The only time I’ve been [on a] silent [count] is in Baltimore and in Seattle, where I’ve had to, under center, kinda have to go [with] signals to the offensive linemen,” the two-time Super Bowl MVP said. “It was so loud in those stadiums that the tackles couldn’t hear me.”

It was with Brandt that the crew witnessed the dramatic ending to the Broncos’ (4-5) 24-22 road win against the Bills (5-5).

Once Broncos kicker Wil Lutz pushed his 41-yard field goal to seemingly end the game, Peyton and Eli turned away in disbelief. But the shock of the miss was outdone by the shock that Buffalo had 12 men on the field, giving Lutz another chance from 36 yards.

The second time, he drilled it, giving Denver its third-straight victory after a 1-5 start to the season. The Broncos are now just a game back of the final AFC wild-card spot, and just a half-game behind a group of three teams at .500.

One of those three is the Bills, whose deflating season continued with a crushing loss at Highmark Stadium. All five of Buffalo’s losses have been within one score, but Monday might have been the most stunning — with Eli Manning putting it best.

“What a way to lose a game,” the 42-year-old said.
