Przyszedł czas na ostatni akcent tenisowej rywalizacji podczas igrzysk olimpijskich w Paryżu. W decydującym spotkaniu o tytuł w kobiecym deblu mieliśmy “polski” akcent, bowiem w duecie z Sarą Errani występowała Jasmine Paolini. Początek finału należał do Mirry Andriejewej i Diany Sznajder, ale Włoszki odrodziły się i doprowadziły do zwycięskiego dla nich super tie-breaka. Zawodniczki z Półwyspu Apenińskiego wygrały 2:6, 6:1, 10-7 i zostały mistrzyniami imprezy czterolecia.
Zmagania deblistek podczas igrzysk olimpijskich w Paryżu przyniosły sporo niespodzianek. O ile obecność Sary Errani i Jasmine Paolini w decydującym starciu o mistrzostwie nie może dziwić, gdyż mieliśmy do czynienia z zawodniczkami, które w tym sezonie wygrały m.in. turniej WTA 1000 w Rzymie i dotarły do finału Roland Garros, o tyle Mirra Andriejewa i Diana Sznajder grały ze sobą dopiero pierwszy turniej.
W dodatku doświadczenie również było po stronie Włoszek. 37-letnia Errani to zawodniczka, która w latach 2012-14 osiągała znakomite sukcesy w grze podwójnej. Była liderką rankingu deblistek, wygrała wszystkie turnieje wielkoszlemowe. W Paryżu dostała szansę na skompletowanie Karierowego Złotego Wielkiego Szlema. Zawodniczki urodzone w Rosji, mające odpowiednio 17 i 20 lat, zdołały jednak przenieść kapitalną formę z gry pojedynczej i stworzyły duet, który w ćwierćfinale wyeliminował obrończynie tytułu – Barborę Krejcikovą i Katerinę Siniakovą
