Zelenskyy says Ukraine ‘ready’ for peace negotiation after ‘regrettable’ meeting with Trump…
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently described his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as “regrettable” but expressed Ukraine’s readiness to engage in peace negotiations with Russia.
The meeting, held in the Oval Office, ended without a firm resolution. President Trump criticized Zelenskyy’s attitude and lack of gratitude for U.S. support, demanding a clear commitment to peace talks before any further assistance. This led to a temporary halt of U.S. military aid to Ukraine, pending evidence of Ukraine’s dedication to pursuing peace.
In response, Zelenskyy reaffirmed Ukraine’s commitment to peace, stating, “Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians.” He emphasized Ukraine’s willingness to work under Trump’s leadership to achieve lasting peace and expressed readiness to sign a minerals agreement with the U.S.
European allies have voiced concerns over the U.S. decision to pause military aid, urging Zelenskyy to mend relations with Trump. They stress that Europe’s defense capabilities are insufficient to support Ukraine without U.S. involvement.
Zelenskyy has outlined initial steps for the peace process, including a prisoner release, cessation of missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure, and a sea truce, contingent on Russia’s reciprocal actions. He aims to swiftly progress toward a comprehensive peace agreement with U.S. cooperation.
The international community remains watchful, hoping that these developments will lead to a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
