Just In: Iran Sends Massive 86-Member Team to Pakistan for High-Stakes Ceasefire Talks with the US. full details here
Tehran has dispatched a large delegation of 86 officials, experts, and support staff to Islamabad for direct negotiations with American representatives aimed at turning a fragile two-week ceasefire into a lasting peace deal.
The group is led by Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
It includes senior members of the Supreme National Security Council, the Central Bank governor, deputy foreign ministers, parliamentarians, and the head of Iran’s National Defense University.
Key figures stand out. Nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani brings experience from past talks on Iran’s program. Hardline MP Mohammad Nabavian represents conservative voices in Tehran, signaling that any agreement must win backing from Iran’s toughest factions to hold domestically.
The presence of the Central Bank governor points to immediate discussions on sanctions relief and economic issues rather than leaving them for later.
Pakistan is hosting the talks, which are set to begin Saturday with US Vice President JD Vance leading the American side. The location gives the Iranian team added security under Pakistan’s nuclear protection, away from risks they have faced in recent weeks.
The conflict erupted on February 28, 2026, and the current pause in fighting remains shaky amid disputes over its terms, including issues involving Lebanon and regional shipping.
Both sides enter the meetings with wide gaps between their proposals, but the broad makeup of Iran’s team shows Tehran is treating the process seriously and seeking buy-in across its political spectrum for any outcome.
