BREAKING:From Scottish Roots to Modern Power: Report Traces Distant Family Link Between Trump and King Charles III.
A remarkable genealogical claim is drawing attention on both sides of the Atlantic, suggesting that Donald Trump and King Charles III may share a distant ancestral connection stretching back more than five centuries.
According to research reported by the Daily Mail and conducted by genealogist Robert Barrett, with contributions from royal biographer Robert Hardman, the two figures are believed to be approximately 15th cousins.
The lineage, while remote, offers a fascinating glimpse into the interconnected nature of historical family lines—particularly among those with roots in European nobility.
The reported connection traces back to Matthew Stewart, 3rd Earl of Lennox, a descendant of James II of Scotland.
The Earl of Lennox died in 1526 during the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge, a violent clash tied to rivalries among Scotland’s noble families.
His lineage continued through his son, the 4th Earl of Lennox, and later through Lord Darnley, who famously married Mary, Queen of Scots.
Their son, James VI and I, became a pivotal figure in British royal history and a foundational link to the modern House of Windsor.
On Trump’s side, the ancestral trail reportedly runs through his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, who emigrated from the Isle of Lewis in Scotland to the United States in 1930.
Her lineage is said to connect through generations of Scottish clans, including the MacLeods and Mackays, eventually linking to Donald Mackay,
1st Lord Reay—and, by extension, to the same broader ancestral network tied to the Lennox line.
While such distant familial ties are not uncommon when tracing back centuries—particularly among individuals with European heritage—the timing of the report has added intrigue.
The findings surfaced around the period of a high-profile visit by King Charles III to Washington, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States’ Declaration of Independence.
Though neither side has formally emphasized the genealogical link, Donald Trump has previously spoken positively about the British monarch, describing him as “a great guy” in an interview.
Whether seen as a historical curiosity or a symbol of shared heritage, the reported connection underscores how centuries-old lineages can still echo in today’s global leadership landscape.
