SPEAKER JOHNSON DEFENDS ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’ AND NATIONAL REDEDICATION AGAINST SEPARATION CRITICS
Speaker Mike Johnson pushed back hard against critics attacking the Rededicate250 faith event on the National Mall.
“If you walk into the House Chamber with me, you will see ‘In God We Trust’ inscribed in the marble right above where I stand as the Speaker of the House,” Johnson said.
“Congress put that there as a recognition of who we are: we are one nation under God.”
He continued: “To come here and gather for a happy, hopeful celebration to rededicate ourselves in that way as one nation under God is a healthy and appropriate thing” for America’s 250th anniversary.
Johnson called out the opposition: “The people who are upset about it oppose that. They want to erase the history of America… The people who are the naysayers and who have created this new term of Christian nationalism as a pejorative, a derogatory term, are trying to silence the influence and voices of Christians.”
The Speaker made clear the event is a positive step to honor America’s founding heritage as one nation under God.
