Meghan Markle Leaves Viewers Surprised After Sharing Heartfelt Moment with Son Archie During Disneyland Trip
During a newly released ABC News special titled The Happiest Story on Earth: 70 Years of Disneyland, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared intimate moments from their recent family visit to Disneyland, celebrating Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday.
In the documentary, Meghan Markle, 44, emotionally reflected on the experience, revealing that her six-year-old son, Archie, asked her, “When’s my birthday?” following the celebration. The comment sparked curiosity online, with some viewers interpreting it literally, while others suggested Archie may have simply been expressing eagerness for his next birthday after witnessing the excitement of his sister’s celebration.
The couple, who reside in Montecito, California, visited Disneyland in June ahead of the special’s broadcast. The trip featured memorable moments for the children, including meeting Disney characters like Elsa from Frozen, enjoying theme park rides, and indulging in a Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake adorned with “Happy Birthday Lili” in pink icing.
Meghan remarked:
> “For us to be able to relive childhood memories and now witness them through our children — it’s magical. After the party, Archie looked at me and said, ‘When’s my birthday?’”
While some online commentators expressed surprise that a six-year-old might not remember his own birth date — especially after celebrating it a month earlier in May — others defended the remark as typical of young children processing events and timelines. One X (formerly Twitter) user noted, “I think he was asking how long until his next birthday, not the exact date.”
The moment has sparked a wider discussion on social media about childhood development and memory. Comments ranged from light-hearted to critical, with some sharing personal anecdotes of their own children reciting birthdays from a young age.
Alongside the documentary, Meghan and Harry released a touching photo of Archie and Lilibet during the birthday festivities, intentionally preserving their children’s privacy by only showing the back of their heads. The image captured the siblings leaning close, with Lilibet reaching toward her cake, surrounded by vibrant flowers and a Disneyland-themed balloon.
The documentary also featured footage of the family enjoying classic Disney attractions such as Space Mountain, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, and Cars. Prince Harry, 41, shared his own nostalgic memories from visiting Disney World as a child with his mother, Princess Diana, and brother, Prince William.
> “To see our kids immerse themselves in these experiences — it really brings out the child in you,” Harry said. “They were so excited, and I told them, ‘You haven’t even seen the front of the park yet — just wait!’”
Meghan added that growing up in Southern California made Disneyland a familiar, yet always special, destination. She recalled attending Disneyland’s “Grad Night” during high school, prompting Harry to joke, “Can you do that in your forties?”
The family’s appearance on the documentary followed a surprise joint outing the previous day, where Meghan and Harry attended Kevin Costner’s One805LIVE! charity event at his estate in Santa Barbara. Other high-profile guests included Oprah Winfrey.
The Sussexes’ rare glimpse into their personal lives continues to engage audiences, striking a balance between royal tradition and the couple’s desire to raise their children with a sense of normalcy.
