Simone Biles Fans React to Husband Jonathan Owens’ Recent Podcast Remarks
Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles is receiving public support from fans after comments made by her husband, Jonathan Owens, during a recent podcast appearance sparked online criticism.
Owens, an NFL safety, appeared this week on a popular podcast alongside former players Ryan Taylor and Channing Crowder. During the episode, he discussed how he and Biles first connected via the celebrity dating app Raya in 2020, revealing that it was Biles who initiated contact.
“I didn’t know who she was at the time,” Owens admitted, adding, “The first thing I saw was that she had a lot of followers, so I figured she must be someone important.”
He also mentioned that he was busy with training camp during Biles’ Olympic career and hadn’t followed her accomplishments closely.
The couple began dating shortly after their introduction and got married earlier this year. However, controversy arose when Owens made a comment in response to a question from the host, Ryan Clark, who asked, “So you were really the catch in the relationship?”
Owens replied: “I always say the men are the catch.”
The statement quickly drew criticism on social media, particularly from fans who felt the remark downplayed Biles’ achievements as one of the most decorated gymnasts in history.
Some of the more pointed reactions on X (formerly Twitter) included:
“Simone Biles’ husband is a walking red flag.”
“File those divorce papers, Simone.”
“The way this unknown man sat there and tried to humble Simone Biles is unreal.”
In response to the backlash, Owens took to Instagram, sharing photos from his wedding to Biles with the caption: “Unbothered.”
Despite the criticism, neither Biles nor Owens has publicly addressed the matter further.
