President Trump addressed the nation after tonight’s incident at the Hilton, making clear why major White House renovations are now urgent.
“I think that all of the conditions have took place tonight,” Trump said. “And, you know it’s not a particularly secure building and uh… I didn’t want to say this but this is why we need all of these attributes of what we’re planning at the White House.”
He continued: “It actually a larger room and it’s much more secure. It’s got drone proof, bulletproof glass. We need ballroom. That’s why Secret Service, that’s why military are demanding.”
Trump emphasized the long-standing need: “We’ve wanted the ballroom for 150 years for lots of different reasons.
But today is a little bit different. Because today we need levels of security that probably nobody has ever seen before.”
He closed by praising law enforcement: “Everyone owes tremendous debt of gratitude to courage of law enforcement. The law enforcement and working with DC Police. Just spoke to Mayor. When we’re finished.”
