As a historic winter storm — dubbed Winter Storm Fern by forecasters — barrels across the United States, President Donald Trump has offered his public assessment of the dangerous weather system that is expected to bring widespread snow, ice and record-low temperatures to as many as 200 million Americans and spark a cascade of travel disruptions, power outages and emergency responses.

The storm, one of the most expansive in recent memory, has already brought heavy snow, sleet and frigid air from the Southern Plains to the Atlantic Coast, prompting multiple states to declare emergencies and airlines to cancel thousands of flights.

Meteorologists warn that large swaths of the country will grapple with treacherous conditions for days.

In response, President Trump took to social media to emphasize that federal and state agencies are working together to prepare for and respond to the storm.

In a Truth Social post, he said he had been briefed on the “Record Cold Wave and Historic Winter Storm,” and stressed that FEMA and local officials are coordinating efforts to protect communities and mitigate impacts.

“FEMA is fully prepared to respond.

“Stay safe and stay warm!” he wrote.

The federal government has already activated emergency declarations in a number of states and mobilized resources, including search and rescue teams, emergency supplies such as meals and blankets, and power grid support, ahead of the storm’s most intense phases.

Trump’s comments also touched on a broader debate about climate.

He questioned how the cold wave fit into discussions about global warming, writing on his social media platform: “WHATEVER HAPPENED TO GLOBAL WARMING?” — a remark that drew swift responses from scientists who stressed that cold weather events do not negate long-term trends in climate change.

As Fern continues to spread its wintry reach — affecting travel, infrastructure, and daily life across much of the country — government officials and weather experts remain focused on public safety, urging residents to heed advisories and prepare for potentially life-threatening conditions.
